Description:

The research was conducted to assess the results of the 2022 Census of Population, Households, and Dwellings and their impact on the performance of economic growth in Serbia. The project aims to produce a publication containing a comprehensive analysis of demographic changes and economic growth between the last two censuses in Serbia. The particular importance of the research lies in understanding the interdependence of demographic changes and economic growth during the transitional period 2001–2023, as well as in predicting key variables of economic growth in the context of demographic projections up to 2052. The project includes a detailed analysis of demographic trends at national and regional levels, with emphasis on changes in the working-age population, causes of demographic regression, such as depopulation and ageing, and expected demographic developments in the coming decades. The research also focuses on macroeconomic analysis of key growth performances in the transitional period, including structural and fiscal indicators, with comparisons to other European transitional countries. Assessing the impact of demographic indicators on economic performance represents a significant part of the comprehensive analysis. The research results can serve as a basis for creating public policies in various fields, monitoring the implementation of existing strategies, and developing future strategies that link demographic trends and economic growth.
