Description:

The research was conducted to review the results of the 2023 Census of Agriculture and their impact on economic growth in the Republic of Serbia. The project aims to develop a comprehensive analysis of structural changes in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries and agro-industry sectors in the period between the two censuses (2012-2023), as well as to assess their contribution to economic development. The special importance of the research is reflected in the understanding of the transformation of the agricultural system in the transition period, including changes in the structure of the rural population, farms, land, mechanization and labor. The analysis includes demographic trends, the decline and ageing of the rural population, as well as structural and regional disparities in the development of the sector.

The research focus is also on the macroeconomic effects of agriculture and agro-industry, including productivity, incomes, exports and contribution to GDP, compared to other European countries in transition. Particular attention is paid to the impact of climate change, sustainability and technological progress. The results of the research are the basis for the creation and improvement of agricultural policies and strategies that link structural changes, economic growth and sustainable development of Serbia.
