On December 4, 2023, the 65th anniversary of our scientific institution was celebrated. As every year, jubilee awards were presented to our researchers for 5, 10, and 20 years of service, as well as awards for the best young researcher, the annual "Tomislav Popović" award for excellence in work, and the "Branko Horvat" award for lifetime achievement. This year's winners are Boban Nedeljković, as the best young researcher, Ivana Domazet for excellence in work, and Vesna Pejović for lifetime achievement.
Our first director and candidate for the Nobel Prize in Economics, Prof. Branko Horvat, in 1968, on the occasion of marking the first decade of our institution's work, said: "Flipping through reports from past years and digging through memories, I became aware that the history of our Institute resembles more the history of a combat unit than that of a scientific institution... And for that reason, in a realistic historical review, a certain place should be given to that struggle."
Proud of the jubilee but at the same time aware of the responsibility to preserve what has been achieved as well as the ambitious goals set by the Strategy'25 and the Transformation Plan of the Institute of Economic Sciences, we firmly believe in and follow what our founders had in mind when they started the history of our Institute – that through knowledge, learning, and understanding, society as a whole changes for the better.
With gratitude to all employees, collaborators, and the support received over the 65 years of existence, the Institute of Economic Sciences looks to the future with optimism because the achieved results confirm that we are recognized as a trusted research institution that has gained a high reputation in the Southeast Europe region.
