Tomislav Popović, PhD

Tomislav Popović (1938-1999) was born in Đakovica, and finished elementary school and high school in Ivangrad (Berane). He completed his undergraduate, master's and doctoral studies at the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade. From the Institute for International Politics and Economy, where he worked from 1964 to 1989, he moved to the Institute of Economic Sciences (IES), where he was elected general director. He was the director of IES from 1989 to 1999. In economics, he dealt with a wide range of topics, among which the theory of value and price, structural changes in the world economy, the new international economic order, the functioning and problems of the world market, the strategy of foreign trade relations of Serbia and Yugoslavia, macroeconomic problems and strategic planning, transition flows and privatization models.

At the faculties in Niš, Subotica, Novi Sad and Belgrade, he taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and at some European and American universities he gave notable lectures. He had a notable role in numerous professional associations. He was a member of the Executive Committee of EADT (European Association for Development and Education), a member of the Presidency of the Scientific Society of Economists of the FRY, a member of the Presidency of the Association of Economists of Serbia, president of the Legal and Economic Council of the Vojvodina Bank, president of the Association of Institutes of Serbia, a member of the management boards of several large systems in Serbia and Montenegro, etc. His scientific work consists of 17 publications, over 380 studies and projects and a large number of scientific and professional works published in the country and abroad.
