The Integration of Serbian Economy into the European Union: Planning and Financing of Regional and Rural Development and Enterprise Development Policy (159004)

Head of the project: Mirjana Radović-Marković, PhD

Duration of the project: 2007-2011

As one of the most important expected results of this project, we highlight the contribution to more effective implementation of the European Charter on Small and Medium Enterprises and more stable development of entrepreneurship in Serbia. This would enable Serbia to create more jobs, which create added value and facilitate the spread of innovations in the economy, thus contributing to the survival and progress of the national economy on the European and global markets. Also, a very important aspect of this project is the determination of effective modalities of financing local and regional development and the most effective use of dedicated European funds and funds of international financial institutions, as well as patterns of attracting domestic and foreign investments for the needs of regional and rural development. Determination of available financial mechanisms and characteristics of the financial market in this area should facilitate development planning and identification of the most attractive projects.

Taking into account the complexity and disparity of the mechanisms of European integration in more than thirty areas in which negotiations on Serbia's accession to the EU will be conducted in the immediate future, it is expected that this theoretical-empirical project will offer a systematized and professional basis that will benefit the Government of the Republic of Serbia, ministries and other institutions participating in the process of Serbia's inclusion in the European Union and assistance in the current phase for the training of the necessary personnel for the accompanying analytical work, which is necessary in order to conduct the negotiations successfully.
