The subject of this research is to analyze and explore possibilities for the application of specialized management disciplines in the function of improvement of Serbian economic competitiveness and, by doing this, to create a foundation for adequate strategic management in organizations. In the World Economic Forum report for the year 2009/10, Serbia takes 93rd place (from 133 countries) and made eight places fall compared to the previous year. Competitiveness Index, defined by World Economic Forum, is one of the most accepted instruments for comparing and assessing competitiveness. It enables the valuation of work success in the economy of a certain country. Through the procedure of carrying out research activities on this project, the causes of weak competitiveness need to be scrutinized, along with their relation to management disciplines. As a project result, the recommendations for improvement of specialized management disciplines application in organizations will be created, and the new foundation for the improvement of doing business and work results of single organizations, as well as competitiveness of the Serbian economy as a whole, will be formed. It is expected that recommended researches will lead to the definition of a general strategic methodological frame and appropriate managerial procedures for efficient managerial action in real situations.
