Impact of ICT on Unemployment Factors in Spain and Serbia - a Comparative Analysis for Practical Recommendations

Head of the project: Dejana Pavlovic, PhD

Duration of the project: 2021-2022

Many countries within the EU have been striving to grow their economies since the stalling initiated by the 2008 recession. Despite corrective monetary and fiscal policies, there has been a distinct failure in finding a solution to incorporate younger workers effectively into the labor market. Youth unemployment was already struggling prior to 2008, when the European level “crisis” aggravated it, leaving young workers disproportionately under or unemployed. This “lost generation” syndrome poses a risk to sustainable growth. While there has been a fall in youth unemployment in recent years, it still remains higher than for other age groups, suggesting that policymakers have not been unable to find a solution to this problem.

The aim of the project is to analyze the consequences of unemployment, both in terms of youth unemployment and society as a whole. Based on a comparative analysis of previous empirical studies, analysis of the existing public policies and strategies, and the available statistical data, the cooperation of researchers will enable the identification of key economic and social factors affecting the high unemployment rate (youth and population) in Serbia and Spain.
