Analysis of value chains in the Western Balkan economies – Enriching the potential for regional cooperation in priority areas

Team coordinator of the Institute of Economic Sciences: Isidora Ljumović, PhD
Duration: 2020-2021

Description:
The six Western Balkan (WB) economies (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia) are increasingly integrating into the European Union. Thus, the Western Balkan regions are becoming a focus area for investment, trade and mobility. This, of course, also includes integrating the WB economies into European and global value chains. This project aims, therefore, to deliver an overview of value chain integration in the WB economies and their competitive position. It will also help to identify opportunities for upgrading the region's position and individual economies in European and global value chains, as well as strengthening regional and transnational cooperation in line with smart specialisation strategies and ongoing global megatrends and challenges.
